Overview

Sidon is a Zora prince in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and one of Link’s principal allies during the investigation of Hyrule’s Regional Phenomena. As the heir and future leader of Zora’s Domain, he combines political responsibility with direct involvement in the crisis affecting his people. His importance extends beyond his royal status: Sidon becomes the Sage of Water, giving him a central role in the game’s story and a distinctive ability that supports Link during the Zora storyline.

Sidon is introduced in and around Zora’s Domain, where Link encounters him while investigating the mysterious sludge contaminating the region’s waterways. The crisis has disrupted daily life for the Zora and is connected to the broader disturbances appearing across Hyrule. Sidon’s position gives him a personal stake in restoring the domain, but he also acts as an active field ally rather than remaining behind as a quest-giver or administrator.

The character’s role is closely connected to the Zora storyline and the Water Temple. Working with Link, Sidon investigates the source of the regional disaster and confronts the responsibilities associated with protecting his people. This makes him both a narrative companion and a representative of Zora leadership. His storyline also continues the connection between the Zora and the wider history established in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, while presenting Sidon’s position and responsibilities in the later game.

In gameplay, Sidon is distinguished by his water-based Sage ability. His power can create a protective bubble around Link and produce a water effect that can be used with attacks, giving the ability defensive and combat-related uses. The ability reflects Sidon’s identity as the Sage of Water and gives his contribution a practical role beyond dialogue or story support. His avatar can also accompany Link after the relevant progression, subject to the game’s Sage mechanics.

Sidon stands out among the game’s major allies because he joins royal leadership, personal courage, and a direct connection to one of Hyrule’s regional crises. He is not a conventional protagonist or a permanently playable character, but his presence links the Zora’s local emergency to the larger struggle threatening Hyrule. His importance is therefore both regional and structural: he helps define the Zora arc while contributing one of the game’s most recognizable companion abilities.

03

Background

Prince of Zora’s Domain

Sidon was born into the royal family of the Zora and is the son of King Dorephan, ruler of Zora’s Domain. He is also the younger brother of Mipha, the Zora Champion who served alongside Link during the era preceding the Great Calamity. As a member of the royal family, Sidon grew up with a direct connection to the leadership and defense of the Zora, although the game provides limited detail about his childhood or formal education. His position before the events of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was that of a prince and prominent representative of Zora’s Domain, rather than its reigning king.

Mipha and the Great Calamity

Mipha’s death during the Great Calamity shaped Sidon’s family history and the political memory of Zora’s Domain. Mipha had piloted Divine Beast Vah Ruta and was killed when the Divine Beasts were seized by Calamity Ganon. Sidon was still young when the disaster occurred, so his knowledge of his sister was connected both to personal loss and to her status as one of Hyrule’s Champions. The consequences of Mipha’s death remained important to the royal family and to Link’s history with the Zora, but specific details about Sidon’s life immediately after the Calamity are not extensively shown.

A century later, Sidon helped Link confront the crisis affecting Vah Ruta in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Their cooperation established a prior connection before the events of Tears of the Kingdom: Sidon knew Link as the Hylian who had helped free the Divine Beast and restore safety to the Zora. This earlier experience also placed Sidon among the Zora leaders who had personally witnessed Link’s role in opposing Calamity Ganon. The specific details of their friendship and Sidon’s broader activities between the two games are not fully documented, so they should not be expanded into an invented biography.

A Royal Heir Before the Upheaval

By the beginning of Tears of the Kingdom, Sidon remains the prince and heir of Zora’s Domain while King Dorephan continues to rule. He has also formed a relationship with Yona, a Zora associated with the royal family and the Domain’s affairs. This gives Sidon a personal connection to the future of Zora’s leadership before the main crisis begins. His pre-story background therefore combines royal responsibility, the legacy of Mipha, and experience assisting Link during the previous game. The Upheaval later tests those foundations, but its effect on Sidon’s leadership belongs in the character’s story and development sections rather than in his pre-main-story history.

Personality & Motivations

Confidence as a Form of Leadership

Sidon presents confidence as something he can give to other people, not merely as a personal boast. He greets Link with immediate warmth, treats their renewed partnership as dependable, and continues to speak with energy even when the Zora domain is suffering from the sludge crisis. His encouragement is active rather than passive: he joins the investigation, faces danger personally, and keeps other Zora focused on solving the problem. This makes his optimism part of his leadership style. Sidon understands that fear and uncertainty can spread through a community, so he counters them with visible resolve and a willingness to act first.

His enthusiasm can sometimes make him seem uncomplicated, but his behavior shows that he recognizes the seriousness of his responsibilities. He does not respond to the crisis by pretending that everything is safe. Instead, he acknowledges the threat while maintaining a hopeful public presence. The contrast between his upbeat manner and the danger around him suggests that his confidence is a chosen discipline. He uses it to steady others, especially when the Zora are confronted with environmental damage, political uncertainty, and the apparent absence of familiar allies.

Duty to the Zora

Sidon's central motivation is the protection of Zora's Domain and its people. His decisions are consistently directed toward restoring the water, identifying the source of the contamination, and preventing the crisis from becoming a lasting disaster. He is not motivated by curiosity alone. Investigation matters to him because it is connected to public safety, the survival of the domain, and the responsibilities attached to his position within Zora society. This gives his actions a practical focus even when his personality remains exuberant.

That sense of duty also explains why Sidon accepts danger rather than leaving the response entirely to Link or to the other Zora. He participates in the search for a solution and confronts the forces responsible for the crisis. His leadership is therefore based on service as much as authority. He is willing to stand alongside others, use his own abilities, and share the risks faced by the community. The result is a character who treats leadership as an obligation to be present when his people need help.

Hope Under Pressure

Sidon's hope is most convincing when it is tested. The Zora crisis gives him reasons to doubt that a quick solution is possible, while the wider upheaval in Hyrule creates uncertainty about the future. Even so, he continues to place value on cooperation and on the possibility that determined action can improve the situation. His trust in Link is an important expression of this worldview: he does not treat past loyalty as a reason to avoid present risks, but as a foundation for working together again.

This trust does not make Sidon careless. He can recognize danger, investigate suspicious circumstances, and adjust his actions as new information becomes available. His positive outlook works alongside judgment rather than replacing it. That balance separates him from a character who is merely cheerful for comic effect. Sidon remains emotionally open and encouraging, but the crisis forces him to combine those qualities with patience, vigilance, and a willingness to confront uncomfortable possibilities.

A More Mature Responsibility

Sidon's role in Tears of the Kingdom places personal feeling beside public responsibility. He is connected to the Zora's royal leadership, yet his behavior is not defined by distance or ceremony. He speaks directly with people involved in the crisis, responds to the condition of the domain, and makes himself part of the effort to repair it. His concern is expressed through participation: he investigates, protects, coordinates, and continues forward when a less committed leader might wait for someone else to solve the problem.

The character's development is therefore less about abandoning his optimism than about giving it greater weight. Sidon remains enthusiastic, loyal, and openly supportive, but the scale of the crisis requires him to act with the judgment expected of a future ruler. He learns to carry hope without treating it as evidence that danger has disappeared. His motivation becomes both personal and communal: he wants to protect the people he cares about, while also proving through action that the Zora can endure a crisis and rebuild their future.

Mission Appearances

01

This Main Quest introduces Sidon's central role in the Zora storyline. After Link reaches Zora's Domain, Sidon coordinates the investigation into the sludge contaminating the region and works with Link to uncover the source of the crisis. The quest establishes Sidon as the Zora's principal leader and as one of Link's major allies during the Regional Phenomena.

02

Sidon is Link's principal ally while the Zora investigate the sludge affecting their domain. He helps connect the environmental disaster to the wider threat facing the Zora and supports Link's search for a way to restore the region. The quest also develops Sidon's concern for his people and his determination to protect Zora's Domain.

03

Sidon participates in the investigation surrounding the damaged slate found near Zora's Domain. The discovery gives the Zora a new lead concerning the ancient history behind the regional crisis, while Sidon's involvement keeps the investigation tied to the kingdom's immediate danger. His role is primarily that of leader, investigator, and Link's partner.

04

In this Main Quest, Sidon helps Link follow the evidence connecting the Zora crisis to the sky above the region. The investigation moves beyond the immediate sludge problem and points toward the ancient events and technology involved in the Water Temple. Sidon's presence emphasizes the quest's importance to both modern Zora leadership and their historical legacy.

05

Sidon accompanies Link during the approach to and confrontation within the Water Temple. His water-based power is essential to the temple's central challenge, and the quest marks the point at which he formally takes on his role as a Sage. The temple storyline also gives Sidon a direct responsibility for ending the disaster threatening Zora's Domain.

06

Regional Phenomena is the broader Main Quest that sends Link to investigate the disasters affecting Hyrule's major regions. Sidon's storyline forms the Zora chapter of this investigation, and his alliance with Link becomes one of the quest's major outcomes. The quest provides the wider narrative context for Sidon of the Zora and the Water Temple.

07

This Side Adventure takes place after the Zora's main crisis and centers on a request connected to Sidon's life as king. Sidon and Yona are involved as Link searches for a blue stone needed for the Zora's Domain. The quest gives Sidon a quieter post-crisis appearance and adds context to his responsibilities beyond the Water Temple.

08

This Side Adventure is associated with the Zora's Domain storyline after the Regional Phenomena crisis. Sidon's role is connected to the restored relationship between Link and the Zora leadership, with the quest serving as a follow-up to the alliance formed during the Water Temple events. It is less central to Sidon's arc than his Main Quest appearances.

Gameplay

Sidon's Sage of Water Ability

Sidon is not a directly playable character in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. After completing the Water Temple sequence and earning his Sage power, Link can summon Sidon's avatar as a combat companion. The avatar follows Link, attacks nearby enemies, and provides access to Sidon's signature ability, the Sage of Water's protective bubble.

When Link activates the ability, Sidon surrounds him with a water bubble. The bubble absorbs a hit and remains useful until it is consumed or otherwise ends. While the effect is active, Link can release the stored water in a forward attack. This water strike damages enemies and can clear certain harmful sludge, making it especially valuable in situations connected to the Zora region.

The ability is activated through Sidon's nearby avatar rather than from a conventional spell menu. This makes positioning important: Link may need to move toward Sidon during combat, and the avatar can be separated from him or temporarily unavailable in situations where Sage avatars cannot be used. Sidon can also be dismissed and resummoned through the key-items ability interface after his vow has been obtained.

Combat Uses of the Water Bubble

Sidon's ability combines defense and offense instead of functioning as a permanent shield. The first hit absorbed by the bubble can prevent damage from a dangerous attack, while the resulting water strike gives Link a way to retaliate immediately. Players can save the bubble for a heavy attack, use it to approach an enemy safely, or trigger the water strike when a group is positioned in front of Link.

The water effect also has useful interactions with equipment and the environment. It can make Link wet, which supports the enhanced damage effect of Zora weapons while the condition lasts. The water attack is additionally useful against fire-based hazards and sludge-related obstacles. These benefits give Sidon's vow a broader role than ordinary companion damage: it supports defense, Zora equipment, environmental cleanup, and short bursts of ranged offense.

Sidon's avatar remains a supporting combat partner rather than a replacement for Link's weapon choices or abilities. Link still controls movement, weapon selection, shields, arrows, and the timing of the bubble's activation. Sidon's own attacks provide extra pressure against enemies, but the most important player-facing feature is deciding when to spend the protective bubble and its water attack.

09

Equipment and Vehicles

Lightscale Trident and Zora Royal Arms

Sidon is associated with the Zora trident tradition and is shown wielding a trident during his appearances in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The Lightscale Trident is the most important character-specific weapon connected to his family and the Zora royal line, although the game allows Link to wield the restored weapon after obtaining the necessary materials. Sidon has no personal vehicle or exclusive outfit that needs a separate equipment entry; generic Zora weapons and armor belong in broader equipment or gameplay coverage rather than on his character page.

Locations and Properties

Zora's Domain

Zora's Domain is Sidon's principal home, territory, and seat of leadership in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. As the Zora prince at the start of the game and later their king, Sidon is closely associated with the domain's throne room, surrounding waterways, and the Zora community. The settlement also serves as the central location for his investigation into the sludge affecting the Zora and the Regional Phenomena quest involving the Water Temple.

Mipha Court

Mipha Court is a significant encounter location for Sidon during the investigation into the sludge contaminating the waters around Zora's Domain. The location connects his present responsibilities to the legacy of Princess Mipha, his older sister and a major figure in the Zora's history. Sidon's presence there reflects his role as the Zora's field leader while the crisis remains unresolved, rather than establishing Mipha Court as a separate residence or permanent base.

11

Character Development

From Heroic Prince to Responsible King

Sidon's development in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is defined by a shift from personal courage to public responsibility. He begins as an energetic and highly capable prince who is eager to confront danger directly, but his confidence is still expressed through action and enthusiasm. The crisis affecting Zora's Domain forces him to consider more than defeating an immediate threat: he must protect his people, preserve their trust, and make decisions as a future ruler. His growth is therefore less about abandoning his optimism than learning to discipline it. Sidon remains warm and encouraging, but he becomes more deliberate when the welfare of the Zora depends on him.

Leadership Tested by the Sludge Crisis

The threat surrounding the Water Temple challenges Sidon's understanding of what leadership requires. The sludge poisoning Zora's Domain creates fear and uncertainty, while the apparent involvement of Princess Zelda makes the crisis personally confusing. Sidon cannot solve the situation through strength alone. He has to work with Link, listen to evidence that changes his assumptions, and continue acting when the situation becomes more dangerous. These pressures turn his enthusiasm into steadiness. By the time he confronts the source of the crisis, Sidon is not simply accompanying Link as a powerful ally; he is making decisions for the Zora and accepting the consequences of those decisions.

Accepting the Legacy of Mipha

Sidon's connection to Mipha remains an important part of his identity, but Tears of the Kingdom presents her legacy as something he must carry forward rather than merely mourn. Mipha's presence is felt through the expectations surrounding the Zora royal family and through Sidon's bond with Link, who knew her before her death. Sidon does not become a replacement for his sister. Instead, he develops his own form of leadership while acknowledging the example she left behind. Receiving the Secret Stone and becoming the Sage of Water gives that development a symbolic dimension: his power is connected to the Zora's past, but its use depends on his own judgment and willingness to act in the present.

A Partnership Rather Than Dependence

Sidon's relationship with Link also changes in significance. Link's experience and reliability make him an essential partner, yet Sidon is not reduced to a companion waiting for the hero to resolve the crisis. Sidon contributes his own ability, knowledge of Zora society, and authority as a member of the royal family. The Water Temple conflict demonstrates that their partnership works because responsibility is shared: Link advances the larger mission, while Sidon protects his people and confronts the danger threatening them directly. This balance allows Sidon to mature without losing the loyalty and openness that define him.

A New Identity as King

By the conclusion of Sidon's arc, his royal status has become an expression of earned responsibility rather than a title he is preparing to inherit. His experience as a Sage gives him a clearer understanding of service, sacrifice, and the burden carried by a ruler. He emerges as a leader capable of representing the Zora during a wider crisis while maintaining the compassion that made him an effective ally. His future with Yona further emphasizes that leadership will be collaborative rather than solitary. Sidon's development ends with him prepared to guide Zora's Domain as King, having transformed from an eager prince into a protector whose confidence is grounded in duty.

Appearance and Design

Sidon’s design in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom presents him as a mature Zora royal and an active protector of the Domain. His tall, athletic silhouette, red-orange hair, prominent fin, and blue-and-white color scheme preserve the recognizable identity established in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild while giving him a more authoritative appearance. His clothing and accessories combine royal decoration with practical elements suited to a leader who participates directly in dangerous events.

A More Mature Zora Prince

Compared with his appearance in Breath of the Wild, Sidon is presented as older and more composed. His broader build and more formal clothing reflect the change in his position and responsibilities, while his expressive face and distinctive swept-back hair retain the energetic personality associated with him. The design avoids making him look distant or ceremonial: he still appears physically capable and approachable, which supports his role as both a royal figure and a field leader.

Royal Colors and Water Motifs

Sidon’s white and blue clothing reinforces his connection to the Zora Domain and to water. Gold details and carefully arranged garments distinguish him from ordinary Zora while signaling his royal status. The contrast between his warm-colored hair and cool blue clothing makes him immediately recognizable in crowded scenes and helps separate him visually from other Zora characters. His design therefore communicates rank through decoration without abandoning the aquatic features and streamlined forms shared by the Zora people.

The Sage of Water

During the events surrounding the Zora’s Regional Phenomena, Sidon’s presentation also becomes associated with the Sage of Water. His water-based power is represented through luminous blue effects and the distinctive Sage imagery used for his abilities. This gives his appearance a gameplay-facing identity in addition to his royal one: Sidon is not merely the heir or ruler of the Zora Domain, but a character visually linked to water, purification, and cooperation with Link. His equipment and formal attire remain secondary to that readable combination of royal authority and aquatic power.

14

Portrayal and Voice Actor

Performed by

Jamie Mortellaro

Sidon’s English voice performance presents him as openly enthusiastic, reassuring, and socially confident. The delivery remains energetic during his introductions and rallying speeches, but it also becomes more focused when the Zora face danger. That contrast helps distinguish Sidon’s public optimism from the responsibility he carries as a leader. His warmth is especially important because the character must function both as a heroic ally and as someone whose confidence encourages Link and the Zora people during a crisis.

Mortellaro’s performance gives Sidon a polished, princely quality without making him sound distant. The character’s excitement is usually expressed through a bright, emphatic rhythm, while more serious scenes use a steadier delivery to underline his concern for his people and his commitment to protecting Hyrule. This balance supports Sidon’s role as a Sage and prevents his optimism from becoming one-note. The performance also preserves the character’s approachable connection with Link, making their partnership feel familiar rather than purely ceremonial.

No reliably recalled production interview, motion-capture credit, or award nomination specific to Mortellaro’s performance as Sidon is included here. The voice-actor credit is based on recalled game knowledge and should receive editorial verification before publication. Other notable roles by the performer are likewise omitted rather than supplied from memory, since this section should not turn uncertain career information into established credit data.

Reception

Sidon was generally received as one of Tears of the Kingdom’s most appealing returning characters. Discussion commonly emphasized his warmth, optimism, leadership, and larger role alongside Link, while noting that his characterization remains comparatively straightforward.

  • Critical discussion commonly singled out Sidon’s charisma and supportive leadership, particularly in contrast with the crisis affecting the Zora. These observations concern his narrative presentation rather than the game’s overall review scores.
  • Players frequently responded positively to Sidon’s friendliness, determination, and memorable visual design. Recurring fan discussion also treats his return from Breath of the Wild as a welcome continuation, although the strength of that reaction varies between individual players.
  • His expanded role gives him more narrative presence than he had in Breath of the Wild, allowing the game to develop his responsibilities as a leader and his connection with Link. That expansion was broadly viewed as a strength of his characterization.
  • Some discussion is more reserved about Sidon’s depth, describing him as an earnest and familiar heroic figure rather than a particularly morally ambiguous character. The game’s direct presentation of his motivations can make his arc feel less complex than those of some other major characters.
  • No character-specific award or formal recognition is included here because a reliable award record was not established for this run.

Cultural Impact and References

References in Other Games

Sidon's most significant appearance outside The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. That game presents an alternate-history version of the events surrounding Breath of the Wild, and Sidon arrives from the future to help the Zora and the other heroes. His appearance connects him to the wider modern Zelda continuity while keeping the game separate from Tears of the Kingdom's direct timeline. Sidon is also playable in Age of Calamity, giving the character a combat role beyond his narrative function in the open-world games.

Official Merchandise and Imagery

Nintendo released a Sidon amiibo associated with Tears of the Kingdom. Scanning it in the game can provide Sidon-themed rewards, including the Zora-Champion paraglider fabric. The figure also reflects Sidon's visual importance in the game's promotional and character merchandise lineup. This is an official use of the character's imagery rather than a fan-made reference, and it reinforces the connection between Sidon, the Zora, and the game's regional storylines.

Fan Culture and Legacy

Sidon's encouraging manner, royal status, distinctive design, and role as the Zora Sage have made him a frequent subject of fan art, character discussion, cosplay, and online humor. These responses are best described as recurring fan activity rather than proof of a universal audience consensus. His popularity is also tied to the contrast between his formal responsibilities as Zora royalty and his openly enthusiastic support for Link, which gives fans a recognizable character identity without requiring the character to be treated as a separate mascot or franchise-wide icon.

Trivia

  • Sidon’s Sage ability creates a protective water barrier around Link. Pressing the ability button while the barrier is active releases the stored water as a forward-rushing wave, allowing the power to function defensively and offensively rather than as a simple projectile.
  • The water wave is especially useful against the sludge affecting the Zora region. It can clear sludge from surfaces and enemies, making Sidon’s ability a character-specific solution to one of the Regional Phenomena’s central hazards.
  • Sidon’s Sage avatar remains available after the Zora questline is completed. Like the other Sages, the avatar can accompany Link in the open world and can be dismissed or summoned through the key-items menu.
  • Sidon’s combat style reflects Zora imagery: he fights with a spear and uses sweeping water attacks rather than relying only on ordinary weapon strikes. His Sage power therefore reinforces both his fighting style and his role as the Sage of Water.
  • During the Zora storyline, Sidon’s status as a future leader is reflected in how he takes responsibility for protecting the domain while King Dorephan is absent. This distinguishes his role from a purely combat-focused companion, even though his ability is primarily used through gameplay.
